I’ve been slowly adding smart home features to my house, and the Kasa HS200 was an attractive option for its price and ease of installation. After using it for a few months, it definitely gets the job done, but there are a few things to consider.
The Good:
* Installation was straightforward: If you’re comfortable with basic electrical work, you can probably swap this in for your old switch in about 15 minutes. Just make sure you have a neutral wire!
* App is decent: The Kasa app is pretty user-friendly. Setting up schedules, timers, and even the “Away Mode” was simple.
* Voice control works well: I have it connected to Google Assistant, and it responds quickly to voice commands.
The Not-So-Good:
* The physical switch is a bit finicky: Sometimes it doesn’t register a press, and I have to tap it a couple of times.
* Occasional connection issues: It’s rare, but every now and then the switch seems to lose connection and I have to reset it.
* No HomeKit support: This was a bummer for me as I’m invested in the Apple ecosystem.
Overall:
The Kasa HS200 is a solid budget-friendly smart switch. It’s great for basic smart home functions like remote control, scheduling, and voice commands. If you’re looking for something with more advanced features or HomeKit integration, you might need to look elsewhere. But if you just want a simple, reliable way to make your lights smarter, the HS200 is a good choice.
